Gilles Lavoie

Senior Investment Consultant and Canadian Leader of Endowments and Foundations

Gilles Lavoie is a Principal in Mercer’s Wealth business with more than 25 years of consulting experience. Based in Montreal, he has recently taken on the mantle of Canadian Leader of Endowments and Foundations. His responsibilities cover developing and leveraging Mercer’s intellectual capital in that field to help ensure that the best of Mercer responds to the needs of these unique investors.

In addition, Gilles is the lead investment consultant for many Canadian and multinational clients, ranging up to several billion in assets under advisement. Working jointly with institutional investors, he aims to optimize the management of various pools of assets ranging from pension funds (Defined Benefits and Defined Contribution), insurance funds, endowments/foundations as well as taxable investors. His expertise includes financial risk management, asset/liability studies, investment policies and strategy development, design and implementation of manager structures and performance monitoring, as well as governance structure and processes.

Gilles started his career in New York City, helping foreign operations of large US multinationals before transferring to Montreal to focus on investment consulting.

Gilles has a B. Sc. Degree in actuarial science from l’Université Laval and he is an associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA). He is completely bilingual (French and English).
